The Clearwater House is my first novel. Here is what is written on the back to describe it: “When Lillian Chase, a young artist living in Omaha, inherits a mysterious old house from a woman she’s never met, she visits the house to learn why. There she discovers secrets of the past through her paintings, and, in finding the truth, she also finds herself.” The story is largely set in and around Clearwater, Nebraska, a small town that holds my heart because most of my family came from there.

State of Georgia . . . and Other Writings is a collection of four stories and four poems that I put together to honor the memory of my best friend since college, Amy Vojtech Beran. Here is what is written on the back of that book: “This is a collection of stories and poems. In the novel-length story, State of Georgia, a newly widowed woman sets out on a life-changing journey. In the novella, Quitter, a man returns to his small hometown to make amends to himself for his years of quitting everything important. In the two short stories, young girls face pivotal moments in their lives. The handful of poems introduce the stories by touching upon their themes. Overall, this collection is about the little decisions we make and their profound impact upon our lives.” Really, the stories are about second chances, and we all need a second chance at some point in our lives. Also, the longer stories are about something I believe very strongly — it’s never too late to start over.

Ticker Tape“– a novel about a Vietnam vet who gets a new lease on life when he returns to Vietnam in search of the woman he loved there. Here is what it says on the back cover: Marvin Wineski is a washed-up Vietnam War veteran who gets a second chance at life. He grudgingly participates in the New York City ticker tape parade in honor of Vietnam vets. This one event is the catalyst for all that follows. With the unexpected support of someone from his past, his journey will take him back to Vietnam to find his true purpose. If you believe in second (and third or even fourth) chances, like I do, then join Marvin on his quest to rebuild a life that was hijacked by war.

Twinges — a novel about a teacher who can sense what her young students will become in life. One day, she discovers that a boy in her class will grow up to become a serial killer. Little does she know then that he will stalk her and those she most loves. Here is what it says on the back cover: Nora Matthews is an elementary school teacher with the ability to predict her students’ futures through sensations she calls twinges. She doesn’t give her ability much credence until one of those predictions comes true. Now, she is haunted by a horrible prediction she recently sensed for one of her young students. Will it come true? Is his fate predetermined, or can she do anything to help him, and his future victims, escape his destiny?
